The Figures
Ultimate Spider-Man
The whole of his costume has a black widow spider feel to me and is a good fresh look. Miles comes with a slip on mask which I’m not a fan of; I would rather have an extra head included with his mask details on it. And unfortunately my figures mask would not fit all the way down on his head and on the back the webs overlap a bit. On the plus side his red webbing with big bright white eyes stand out really well and look really good. Underneath you have Miles with a cheerful grin on his face and no need for extra hairpiece as his buzz cut hair details are on his main headpiece.
The rest of his figure is a black base minimate with red details for his webbing which again stand out very well. There’s also blue highlighting to show off the muscle definition on his chest and legs.
Included is the standard Spidey webline. For customizing this figure makes a good dark base minimate.
In conclusion, Miles make a good addition to your collection but there’s also room for improvement.
This actually makes the second Ultimate Captain America released in minimate form, the first was way back in Marvel wave 27.
Cap’s color scheme is much brighter this go-around, especially the reds and blues; I’m talking 4th of July fireworks bright! He has sculpted mask that show his eyes and chin underneath. I’m not really digging the details on the mask. They went for a shadow look on his forehead but the alignment is off as the A is too far to his left. I’m guessing it was a factory misprint because if you look at the box art above the A is centered and the shadow looks so much better. His face underneath is well done with a rather stony look. Included is a well done blond hairpiece.
His torso, arms and legs look good and have good detailing. There’s a slight bit of blue bleeding on his shoulders. Instead of bulky gloves this go around he has one regular hand with a red bracelet for the glove cuffs and on his left hand is a modified regular hand with attached red bracelet with shield peg in between. I like that they’re trying to keep this modified glove/hand slim but the movement of it especially with the hinge of his elbow is a little awkward. On his legs there are square bracelets for the tops of his boots. I like the slim look of all these bracelets instead of large boots/gloves but the ones on my figure were too loose and kept slipping down to his hand/feet. His belt piece is a good piece but nowhere close to that wonderfully sculpted one from the previous Ult figure.
For accessories he comes with his trusty shield which looks incredible. I love the shiny red along with the details and paint job on the underside. This and his shield from the Avengers movie figure are the best design in my opinion. Also included is a large black assault rifle.
Personally I like the previous Ultimate version of Cap a lot better but this versions bright colors and excellent shield still make it worth your while.
