For this review we take a look at another Toys R Us movie set that lined up with the regular specialty store releases (Marvel Wave 39). In this Thor themed wave there are two sets that are exclusive to TRU. With tons of detail and new sculpts expect to see some impressive figures to add to your collection.

Packaging

The packaging is the standard window box with control art below the windows. The sides have individual picture of the two figures. On the back are the mini-bios of each character along with group picture of all figures in this wave. The front has the new Avengers Assemble movie logo.

The Figures

Loki

Adopted brother of Thor and aptly nicknamed “God of Lies and Mischief”. The movie version was, IMO, played brilliantly by Tom Hiddleston. And come on, how much is everyone geeking out that the Avengers movie will be out next year!!

They have done a good job of emulating the movie’s costumes with this wave. Loki’s helmet has longer horns than his previously released comic version minimate. There are some simple facial details with a complacent expression on his face. I would have liked to see his eyes more green but the actors eyes (at least in this movie) were not the emerald color we’re used to seeing with Loki. Also would have been nice to have an extra hairpiece so we could display the casual “sneaking around the Vault” look.

He has a new sculpted green cape with the clasp in the front. What’s nice about this is the v-cut in the back so that you can see some of the detail underneath. Speaking of the torso detail there is tons, both front and back. The bronze, green and brown design of his chest armor is impressive and highly detailed. This detail is continued on the arms, legs and waist. Loki also has sculpted wrist bracelets/pads.

There are no accessories for him, but I guess he could steal Odin’s staff and call it his own.

In conclusion, great detail was put into this movie line and it shows with this iconic character.

Odin

Odin, ruler of the Asgardian people, father of Thor and Loki, and master napper. Played by none other than Oscar winner Anthony Hopkins (now what movie did he win an Oscar for …. that’s right, another film that we have minimates for: Silence of the Lambs).

Great facial details on this one; he’s easily recognizable as Hopkins from the movie. Love the eye patch and beard, very nice. He also has a new sculpted helmet with the curved horns and wing triangle things in the back with his grey hair underneath. This is a fantastic helmet with tons of detail on it, matches up perfectly to the movie one.

The torso cover and cape are all one sculpted highly detailed piece with the long burgundy cape in the back with his gold/silver armor showing in the front. The cover adds the bulk needed to this character and is a good contrast against the sleeker/slimmer Loki. There’s no detail on the main torso underneath, just the brown blank, but on the arms are grey details for the shoulder pads and also more detail on the legs. There are grey bracelets that match the style of the rest of his outfit. I’m a little surprised that he just has the black shoes instead of boots (or at least the raised boot fronts).

For an accessory he has his gold Odin Staff, nice detail on this too.

In conclusion, another well done figure. Now let him get some rest, he looks like he could take another nap.
