PAFW00

It’s October and I’m really missing the Universal Monsters minimate line. Cool new monsters each year and characters to add to our Halloween display (one of the rare occasions my wife is cool with showing off all my toys).  Sadly no new wave this year but I will hold out hope that they will revisit this minimate license somewhere down the line. In the meantime let’s review one of the TRU exclusive sets from last year’s wave.

Packaging

PAFW01

The packaging is the blister card pack showcasing the figures and accessories. The pack has an insert with the Universal Monster’s logo . The back shows the other figures available in the series with short bio of each of the two characters included. The TRU exclusive sticker is on the front.

The Figures

Princess Anck-Es-En-Amon

PAFW03

Imhotep’s forbidden love Princess Anck-es-en-Amon. In the movie the heroine, Helen Grosvenor, had an uncanny resemblance to her and hence became the resurrected Mummy’s object of desire.

The princess has an amazing headpiece; a gold bird shaped crown with curly brown hair. The detail on this piece is incredible. She has simple but effective facial details and I’m thankful her skin tone is consistent (and natural looking) throughout the figure. There have been a few flesh tone figures that haven’t turned out so well. Her torso has lots of well done details and she has a cool snake shaped armband detail on her left arm.

Her skirt is one of the best skirt pieces I’ve seen on a minimate. It’s done in a translucent blue hinted plastic with darker blue/red/gold around her waist and the cuff along with tons of sculpted details. You can see her legs underneath and no she’s not a party girl, she does have undergarments (had to check for Danny’s sake).

No extra accessories included in this set. She would make a good base for other female figures; again one of the better flesh toned figures released.

She is an incredible minimate figure and makes me miss the Universal Monsters line even more.

MMC Score – 9 out of 10

Frank Whemple

PAFW10

Frank was the son of the archeologist who originally unearthed the mummy. I realize this is a simple figure to add to the line but Ardath Bey would have been so much better in his place (we could have had a minimate fez!!!!!!!).

His hairpiece is a good hairpiece and he has on a tux torso cover. Other than that he’s a black blank with regular hands and generic male head (yes, it looks sorta like the guy from the movie). No extra accessories included. Goes without saying he’s great for creating other generic figures. That’s it, end of story, we could have had a minimate fez.
