Here we have a pack containing versions of Wolverine and Jean Grey from the “New X-Men” comics.
Packaging
The packaging is the now-usual Marvel Minimates box as seen in waves 4 and 5. It features the X-Men logo and also has the faces on the side of the box. Originally, the Phoenix figure was labelled as “New Jean Grey”.
The Figures
New Wolverine
The first figure in this set is another Wolverine; the sixth in the Marvel Minimate line, with two more on the way in upcoming waves. This version is based on his appearance in the “New X-Men” comic.
Try as I might, it’s hard to get excited about this figure. This isn’t because it’s a particularly bad figure, but… it’s another Wolverine, and I have Wolverine fatigue right now. Anyway, you all know what to expect from a Wolverine figure by now. He has sideburns on his hairpiece, a snarling, cocky expression, and claws on his hands. Despite a very clean and tidy paint job, this version doesn’t really come close to the Civilian Logan or Tiger Stripe Wolverine Minimates, but he does go well looks-wise with the New X-Men Phoenix Minimate. The belt piece is also very well done, having some nice molded detail.
New Wolverine comes with no accessories, and I’ll echo my thoughts in the Gaijin Wolverine review, and lament the fact that AA didn’t add in separate hand pieces so that Wolverine doesn’t have to have his claws extended all the time. All of wave 6 apart from Ghost Rider lack any kind of accessory, and that smacks of shortchanging people, especially when the Lord of the Rings figures come with so many accessories.
Overall, it’s Wolverine. Again.

Phoenix
The second figure in the set is another version of Jean Grey. Although we have had an Ultimate Jean Grey before, this version is based on how she looks in the “New X-Men” comics, and when she looks this good, who can argue?
First off, her face and hair have been done superbly. The Ultimate Jean Grey was great in this regard, but this version blows her out of the water. The face is simply detailed but has a lot of character and life in it, especially with the semi-parted lips. The hair, longer and a darker, redder colour than before, looks great and doesn’t cause any balance issues or articulation problems.
The detailing on her costume is well done, and the coat is loose enough to not restrict articulation too much. In addition, Jean looks fine with it removed too, which doesn’t always happen with the coated Minimates (Sabertooth, I’m talking to you!). The belt piece is the same as the one that came with New Wolverine, and looks just as good here, although my favourite detailing is the X on each of her gloves, which has been picked out excellently. The paint job fares worse in other places though, especially on the front of her jacket.
Overall, this is a superb Minimate. As one of the few female Minimates, she really stands out.
