MHBW00

This is a popular pairing of characters, Hawkeye and Black Widow, they’re like peas and carrots. It’s also interesting to see how the comics influenced the movies which in turn influenced the comics. This set is from Toys R Us wave 17, let’s see how they stack up to previous versions.

Packaging

MHBW01

The box is the expanded window box so you can see both characters along with the accessories in the middle. The character names and control art bust shots are below the windows. The sides have individual control art of each character. On the back are the mini-bios of each character along with group picture of all figures in this wave.

The Figures

Hawkeye

MHBW02

By now everyone should be familiar with Clint’s background. This is his new comic look; notice the style influence from the movies.
MHBW04 MHBW03 MHBW05

He has a similar blonde hairpiece to what we’ve seen before, just looks like he’s run a comb through this one a bit more. The headpiece had good details for his purple highlighted shades and a complacent look on his face.

MHBW06

We’ve seen his quiver several times before as well however this time it’s attached to a belted harness instead of his old tunic look. On his torso is a little purple detail for his chest. The new look doesn’t overpower you with the purples but goes for muted highlights. Paint apps are fairly clean. At first I thought his gloves would have been too big for him being an archer but I think they work well. He also has a black belt waist cover along with some straps on his thighs.

MHBW07

For accessories he comes with a bow and set of silver tipped arrows. They’ve also included a clear base stand. Character aside he would also make for a good generic civilian minus the gear.

Overall he’s a decent figure. I don’t think he pops as much as the old full purple comic outfit but he does match how he looks in the comics now.

MMC Score – 7 out of 10

Black Widow

MHBW08

Again everyone should be familiar with her background. We’ve actually seen more movie versions of Black Widow than we have comic versions (4-2, soon to be 5-2). The first comic version in the Champions box set was stellar, this is just as good if not better.
MHBW10 MHBW09

She has a really great flowing “action pose” red hairpiece. Honestly you could swap any of the hairpieces from any of the Black Widows released and they would work; this is the best “action” one. She also has nice facial details, especially the bright pink lips.

MHBW11 MHBW12

The rest of the figure is a base minimate with a few details here and there for her curves. One really nice improvement is the details for her belt are painted right on the waist piece rather than adding a separate piece, it really helps to make her not look as bulky. She has gun holsters on her legs and gauntlets on her arms (thankfully painted in gold).

MHBW13

For accessories she comes with two silver handguns. They’ve also included a clear base stand. Since the outfits are so similar you can easily mix and match pieces from any of the Black Widows released to get the exact look you want.

Hands down the best version released in minimate form so far!
