After the events of Avengers vs X-Men storyline, Marvel made a shift of the entire Marvel Universe to the new Marvel NOW! Many characters had changes to their designs as well as new storylines. This TRU 2-pack features the two heavy hitters: Hulk and Iron Man.
Packaging
The box is the expanded window box so you can see both characters along with the accessories in the middle. The character names and control art bust shots are below the windows. The sides have individual control art of each character. On the back are the mini-bios of each character along with group picture of all figures in this wave.
The Figures
Marvel Now Hulk
Same loveable Hulk now wearing a deluxe metallic pair of shorts. Along with the snazzy new duds he’s also helping out the Avengers …. again … along with S.H.I.E.L.D.
Another Hulk with combed hair, not my favorite look for him. He does have a very good facial expression though. I am kinda disappointed they didn’t go with the full body armor; granted Hulk doesn’t really need armor but it was an interesting unique look for him. So torso cover used is similar to what we’ve seen before but does have cool sculpted details for his pants on the front along with the attachment up the lower part of his back. For the added height he comes with a torso riser that fits on the waist peg. He had nicely detailed metallic shorts and oversized hands and feet. Unfortunately he has green boot feet rather than sculpted feet with toes.
For an accessory he comes with ROB (SHIELD’s recording observation bot). This is a fun extra with excellent details and sculpt. I love the little SHIELD logo. ROB has a clear flight stand so he can float around and included is another clear base stand.
Overall this figure is a mix of good and bad. Nice sharp details and a great accessory but unsightly boot feet, I still dislike his hair, and doesn’t stand out against other previously released Hulks.
Iron Man, back in black. This is the armor model 42 that we wore in the beginning of the Marvel Now reboot (I think that’s right, feel free to double check that). It’s a very similar design to the armor from Iron Man 3.
As I said in the DVD exclusive set, there’s something about the new helmet that looks froggy to me. But the colors overall are pretty good. I like the black, red and gold; not as much as the hot rod red and gold but close. Underneath the helmet is Tony’s face with a very determined look.
He has a partial torso cover which keeps his upper torso bulky but slim for the rest of his body. Underneath he does have full details on his torso on the front and back (no arc reactor?). His arms have the sculpted shoulder pads and I can’t really tell if we’ve seen those gauntlets used on another armor before; same goes for the boots. Again nice crisp details and good job with paint apps.
He comes with a red flight blast base and clear base stand.
I do like this color variation in his suit and good job creating it in minimate form. If we could go back to helmets used between Avenger’s movie and Iron Man 3 this figure would have gotten a higher mark.
MMC Score – 8 out of 10
