HaloWH1 30

We haven’t had many HALO reviews here on MMC, but I couldn’t pass up a chance to get the vehicle with 3 figure sets from Toys R Us.Up first we have the M12 Force Application Vehicle with Jun, Carter and Kat.

HaloWH1 01

This is very unique packaging for this set. Instead of going with the standard large blister pack as used with other vehicle sets this is a large box. From the top/bottom it’s in an irregular hexagon shape. There’s a large window in front so you can see the figures/vehicle straight forward and even from the side. Inside they’ve packaged one figure already in the vehicle on the passenger side and another standing on the back with the large mounted weapon. The third is displayed to the front of the vehicle with the set of weapons beside it. On the front is a group shot of the HALO characters from the game, the HALO and Minimates logos along with the silver TRU Exclusive foil sticker. On top the HALO logo is etched out of the packaging so you can see some of the set below. The back has pictures of the figures and vehicle along with a bio of the full team.

The Figures

HaloWH1 18

I know very little about the characters from this game. But here’s the bio from Jun (he was in a 2-pack in TRU w3): Jun was born on Tyumen in New Harmony. Jun also began as part of Alpha Company, and later served with the Noble Team as their sniper during the Fall of Reach.

All three figures from this set have been released in the regular waves. And the entire Halo line has had a lot of highly sculpted pieces. I especially like the helmets as they are easily recognizable as ones from the game series. Jun’s helmet is very well done with smooth paint apps on all the right places. Overall for as many sculpted pieces that we have with each figure, the paint apps are applied just right with minimal amount of bleeding or paint in the wrong place. Underneath the helmet is Jun’s face with some scuff marks on him. There’s not an extra hairpiece but honestly I’m not sure if this character has hair in the game. He does have a hole in the top of his head.

HaloWH1 19

Jun has a full torso cover armor with really good details. I especially like the brown rolled up pack in the back. His arms have sculpted shoulders and he has large gloves. The waist-piece is I shaped rather than the standard T shape. This is done to accommodate the added thigh covers but still allow the figure to get in a seated position. He also has knee high large boots that do not have C3 holes in the bottom.

HaloWH1 22

The base figure (besides his head) does not have any added detail but rather is a base grey color. The large amount of armor makes him look rather impressive but also causes a hindrance to movement. I’ve found it difficult to keep the arms on the sockets in certain raised positions and those boots make for a tight fit in the Warthog.  Balance is also hit and miss. Basic standing position is not bad and its weight will keep in sturdy. But try any action poses and you really have to work to find its center of balance.

HaloWH1 23

For an accessory he comes with a sniper rifle designed from the game.

Overall an impressive looking figure but can be a bit difficult to work with.

Here’s Carter’s bio: During the Fall of Reach, Carter was the Commander of an elite team of Spartans referred to as the Noble Team. Charismatic, reassuring, and also known to be cool under pressure, Carter was considered a born leader. He inspired confidence in all of those under his command.

Carter’s boots and gloves are the same as Jun’s just with a different paint job. The base figure is also a grey blank (besides his head) and similar setup with his waist-piece. He has a different helmet and torso cover. Again lots of details and great job on the paint apps.

HaloWH1 15

Under the helmet is facial detail; he even has a few scars. No hair but he does have detail for a buzz cut all around his head. The only downside to this is the hole on top.

HaloWH1 16

For an accessory he comes with a Marksman rifle.

HaloWH1 17

Same plus and minuses as Jun; impressive figure but amount of armor also causes pose-ability issues.

HaloWH1 24

Here’s Kat’s bio: As second in command of Noble Team, Lieutenant Commander Kat was considered an exemplary soldier and brilliant cryptanalyst. Even during times of limited intel, her ability to read a situation and react accordingly was considered supernatural, making her invaluable to the team.

HaloWH1 25 HaloWH1 27

She has a cool looking helmet with large visor area. Underneath is Kat’s face with one of the worse looking flat painted on hair details ever seen on a minimate; helmet hair is universally cruel. She has a smaller 3/4 torso size cover armor which reminds me of those little vests you get playing laser tag (not a bad thing).

HaloWH1 26

She has a waist cover but still the same I shaped waist piece to accommodate her thigh covers. Same massive boots and glove as before and underneath a grey blank. Her one arm has a sculpted shoulder but her right arm is a fully sculpted piece. I’m sure there is more to the story of her robotic arm and it looks rather neat. However the thinness of the joint causes major issues for mobility.

HaloWH1 28

Kat comes with a silver small sidearm.

HaloWH1 29

Cool looking but again limited functionality and one bad hairdo.

M12 Warthog LRV

HaloWH1 03

Honestly this is the main draw for me from this pack, the Warthog! Here’s the low down on this vehicle: The M12 Force Application Vehicle with 4-wheel steering and enhanced suspension is versatile in terms of maneuverability and offensive functionality. When outfitted with an M41 LAAG (Light Anti-Aircraft Gun) mounted on its 360 degree hydraulic-powered swivel-mount, it becomes capable of firing up to 550 rounds per minute.

HaloWH1 04 HaloWH1 06

This vehicle is very sturdy and I would imagine it stands up well to heavy play. It looks like it rolled right out of the game. The winch with curved hooks in the front give it that warthog look. It has massive wheels that rotate easily on its axles. The windshield is tinted translucent plastic. I love the details all around: seats, steering wheel, headlights, spotlights and more.

HaloWH1 05

Yes, two of the HALO figures can fit in the seats; although it is a snug fit. Other minimates without a lot of added sculpted pieces fit really well (Spidey in the driver’s seat is an awesome sight). Also one figure can stand on the back to work the mounted gun. The gun itself looks amazing and swivels up and down along with the mount moving around the full 360 degree.

HaloWH1 08 HaloWH1 07

This is my favorite minimate vehicle to date. It has such great playability, it’s very sturdy and so much fun to have random minimate characters driving it around. I was fortunate to grab a few of these sets while on sale at TRU and I highly recommend if you see them grab them. Even if not for yourself, they make excellent gifts for HALO fans. Now I have to see if I can track down an Arctic Warthog for winter!
