The Minimates M.A.X. (Mobile Action Xtreme) brand is new to DST and features an assortment of vehicles and figures designed entirely by Art Asylum. These are the first series of the Toys R Us exclusive sets; each set has two figures with tons of accessories and gear. The lineup includes Special Ops, Law Enforcement, Fire Fighters & Smoke Jumpers.

Packaging

The packaging is the blister card pack with figures showcasing the accessories and gear (GEAR UP). The front has the TRU exclusive logo, GEAR UP showing all the accessories with the control art for the figure on the side. The back shows stages of gearing up along with the other figures available in the series.

The Figures

Smoke Jumpers

There are two smoke jumper sets; this one is the regular set. The pack comes with two figures but they are essentially the same figure.  They both have the same facial detail and expression …. hold on a second: furrowed brow, cheek detail, is that a somewhat look of scorn/concern??? Wow, Wolverine must have smacked some emotion into them for them to be allowed to wear his hair (more to come on this). Speaking of hair there is one regular black hairpiece and two yellow helmets with red smoke jumper logo on front along with a clear movable visor. The visors do look nice but mine kept falling off and are difficult to keep on the hats. Underneath the hats they’re sporting Logan’s mutton chops hairstyle. There is also another yellow helmet with attached full wrap around breathing mask. Again very nice details on the helmets, just wish they would have left off the visors.

Both figures do have the same torso detail, navy blue shirt with white firefighter logo behind red suspenders that are continued and crossed in the back; simple but perfectly executed. There is one set of regular arms with the short blue shirt sleeves and regular hands. Same goes for the boots, there is one set of regular black feet and two sets of feet with the front boot area. An extra set of arms/hands and feet would have been nice so could display both figures geared down instead of having to have at least one fully geared. The pelvis and legs are all brown, which is not a bad thing; it goes with the full pants/boots look for firefighters. There are two sets of brown/yellow striped arms with cuffs pieces along with greenish brown colored hands. Also included are two fully wrapped around brown/yellow striped jackets. The colors are very simple but also very effective and stand out well.

The accessories they come with are two axes, spear, chainsaw, search light with strap, brown oxygen tank and circular saw. There is an extra clear blank torso piece that holds the extra jacket & arms. The oxygen tank can fit over the jacket too to give the full geared up appearance. It’s nice to see a new accessories in these sets with the circular saw and always good to get a chainsaw (repaint of the one seen in Charm City Cakes set).

Overall there is so much to like in this set and again they nailed the look AND power tools to boot!

MMC Score – 9.5 out of 10

Smoke Jumpers, Fire Chief

There are two smoke jumper sets; this one is the Fire Chief set. It has the exact same figures and gear that the other pack has with a few exceptions on the gear. For the full review check the regular version.

The changes in this set are two of the helmets, one hairpiece and one jacket. The hairpiece is the same as the regular set but this one is a light brown instead of black. There is one yellow helmet with red logo (same from regular set) but the other helmet is white with red logo. Also the helmet with attached full wrap around breathing mask is white too. There is one two fully wrapped around brown/yellow striped jacket and one where the front of the jacket is open. The chief gets to wear white and open his jacket.

Overall it’s the same as the regular set so it deserves the same score.
