He’s a new minimate line from the popular video game series Tomb Raider. It’s worth pointing out that the designs and characters are from the recently rebooted game from Square Enix. Up first we have the series heroine Lara Croft paired with a Scavenger Scout. Read on to find out if this pack is a treasure or fools gold …..
Packaging
The packaging is the blister card pack showcasing the figures and accessories. The pack has an insert with the Tomb Raider logo with headshots of the two characters. The back shows all the character pairs in this wave along with a short bio for the figures included.
The Figures
Lara Croft
I remember playing the original games on PC years ago, searching for treasures, solving puzzles and fighting off wolves and other creatures. Now Lara has a fleshed out back-story and this reboot gives the game a similar feel to the Uncharted series. I’ve yet to play the new game but I really like how they have updated the design of Lara.
She has a great ponytail hairpiece and on her face is a calm expression with simple details. The rest of her is a basic base minimate body with simple but very well done details. I’d also like to point out the good job with consistent flesh color tones on her torso, arms and head. I really like the little things like her necklace and pant pockets.
She comes loaded with great accessories. Both figures come with a clear base plate. Lara comes with a walkie talkie, a bow with two separate arrows, a climbing pick and a translucent torch (same one from UM Villager pack done in translucent plastic). These accessories work well not only with her but also are good generic pieces to use with other figures. Same could be said about her, the simple outdoor outfit would be easy to swap with other characters.
Simple, well done with great extras; in conclusion a main character done right!
Here we have another character from the game, a scavenger scout. With any good game you got to have decent grunts to go up against. This one bears the mark of his weapon of choice.
His face looks great (instant start to a Two-Face custom) with the grim faced man transitioning to his red burned side. He comes with a partial black hairpiece with the burned part cut away.
He has a vest torso cover with lots of sculpted detail for his goggles, scarf, belt and pouches all around his waist. Underneath is a dirty cream shirt that works with or without that cover. You can see the detail on his arms and legs where he’s scared and dirty from all the scouting. Again they’ve done a good job keeping a consistent flesh tone throughout the figure; it get’s kinda hazy with his legs/shorts but still a good job. He has large looking boots but thankfully are only 3/4 around so doesn’t make him too bulky and hard to position.
For accessories he comes with a clear base stand and a translucent flaming bottle (called a Molotov Cocktail). He also makes a good figure for customs with some nice added sculpted pieces and generic base body.
In conclusion a good figure to pair with our heroine.
MMC Score – 8 out of 10
