We’re back for another round of Know Your Foe. Today we’re taking another look at another old time Spidey foe …. Vulture!
As you can guess from the trend of the past villains, most have had several versions and/or people in the costume over the years. The Vulture is no different; he first showed up in The Amazing Spider-Man #127 in 1973. The best know version is the original Adrian Toomes whose origin could have turned him into an incredible business success when he created his flight harness. Unfortunately a bad set of circumstances led him to a life of crime instead. His flight harness gave him not only the power to fly but also superhuman strength, endurance and vitality; not bad for an old man.
His minimate release is definitely the original Adrian Toomes costume. He came packed in the Spider-Man Friends & Foes boxset. He has a very well done smirky face with almost glowing light green eyes. Even though the base figure is rather simple with just a few lines for his suit, they did a good job with his wings and neck ruffle. That wing sculpt has come in handy for the Battle Beasts line and also more recently with Falcon’s costume.
There is room for improvement, most notably a flight base is needed. I would like to see a little more detail all around on his costume and perhaps an alternate set of claw hands with attached wing. But keep the ruffle and wings, those are perfect. Another option is to go with a different costume or version (his darker black one would be neat). If they end up doing a Sinister Six movie I would like to see a minimate with the flight harness teased from the last movie.
The Spidey Friends & Foes boxset hasn’t been reviewed yet on MMC; we’ll have to remedy that one of these days. But I would give the Vulture a 7, he’s not perfect but the well done design helps him soar. Stay tuned for more Spidey Foes and check out Luke’s Toy Store to preorder your Deadly Foes of Spider-Man box set!
