Hammer Time!! Two additional figures to help fill out the ranks from the previously released Fear Itself box sets made their way to TRU wave 15. Which one will nail a high score? Read on to find out ….
Packaging
The box is the expanded window box so you can see both characters along with the accessories in the middle. The character names and control art bust shots are below the windows. The sides have individual control art of each character. On the back are the mini-bios of each character along with group picture of all figures in this wave. The silver “TRU exclusive” foil mark is also on the front.
The Figures
Juggernaut as Kuurth
Fear Itself was a 2011 crossover storyline putting some of the Marvel superheroes against the Serpent, an Asgardian fear deity. During this storyline seven hammers of the Worthy fall to earth and those able to pick them up basically become the Serpent’s own personal flying monkeys. Juggernaut being one of those able to pick up the hammer becomes Kuurth, Breaker of Stone (aka Cain from the Grid) and also leads Colossus to getting some new threads.
As you would expect Juggernaut is a massive figure, bulked up pieces all over. He has a new helmet that’s a lot smoother than his normal riveted one. The helmet has one large opening for his mouth then these little black dots for his eyes; they look creepy and bug-like to me. Underneath is a blank black head with floating teeth (extra creepy but good job recreating his comic outfit).
He has yellow track light detail lines all around (Tron look in full effect) with bulky torso cover, shoulder pads, thigh covers and large boots and gloves. Underneath is a simple dark tan torso and silver arms/legs. His gloves are outstanding; so much sculpted detail. I love the rivets on his knuckles. Normally you’d expect to have closed fists with Juggernaut but this version needs to be able to hold his hammer.
Speaking of hammer he comes with a really neat mallet hammer. It kind of reminds me of the one from Donkey Kong. For customizing he’ll be good for parts for larger creations along with nice silver arms/legs for related characters. Not to mention just add some eyes to that big set of teeth.
Not all the major characters in the Fear Itself storyline have been made into minimate figures but they did a good job picking perhaps the more recognizable ones. Especially when they look as good as this one does.
Hulk picked up one of the hammers that landed near him and became Nul, Breaker of Worlds. I can see how this outfit led to some of the changes for his Marvel Now look.
Again Tron-like track lights all around. Hulk has a shaved head with really intense looking facial expression. I do like how the detail goes around the back of his head down to his back.
Like Kuurth, Nul has similar bulked up pieces: torso cover, shoulder/thigh pads and large boots and hands. The hands are the same as Kuurth’s minus the knuckle rivets. Underneath are silver legs/arms and green base torso.
He comes with his hammer. I love the little details that give it that rock texture. Like Kuurth he’s also good for the bulk parts along with nice base pieces.
Another worthy selection from this storyline that is translated nicely to minimate form.
MMC Score – 8 out of 10
