This second Disney exclusive Avengers set has three more of our heroes against another classic Avengers villian, The Grim Reaper.

Packaging

The packaging is the tall window box with control art of Iron Man on top and the Avengers and Minimates logo on the front. The sides have control art of the four figures. On the back are the mini-bios of each character along with group picture of all figures in this box. The blue Disney Store logo and the 10th Anniversary of Minimates logo are also on the front.

The Figures

Iron Man

Like the last box set, a couple of the heroes (Iron Man & Thor) in this set are also in Marvel Wave 44. This armor is one Stark created after the events of Heroes Return.

Iron Man again has the hot-rod red and gold paint job, love it. Clear bright details on the helmet and underneath you have Tony’s face with his under-armor around his head (helps so that we don’t need an extra hairpiece included). The helmet, shoulder/torso cover, belt, boots and gantlets appear to be new sculpted pieces. Great designs all over and especially like the added gold highlights with precision application. Seriously no smudges or bleeding at all that I can see. Do be careful however if you remove the shoulder/torso cover; since there are thick paint apps and the cover itself fits snug that it may pull off some of the paint on the main torso (mine did on the back). Underneath on the torso there is some detailing on his chest.

For an accessory he comes with a blue blast base. It works well on Iron Man but it will really look good for some of our aquatic heroes (like Namor) too. This set does come with a clear base stand to use for any of the characters.

Yet another great Iron Man figure.

Thor

This is another Heroes Return costume look. And we get lots of extras included with this version.

Thor’s helmet looks great, arguably one of the best ones released yet. He also comes with an extra hairpiece too. And not one but two heads are included; one has bearded Thor, the other has clean-cut Thor. Two figures in one; another reason it’s not a bad thing these figures are in both this box set and wave 44, you need multiples to display their different looks.

The first few figures that were released of Thor really couldn’t capture the look of his cape correctly. But since Marvel wave 42 they have been able to pull off the high shouldered flowing fabric perfectly. The cape piece itself sits on his shoulders so you don’t have to take him completely apart to remove it. The detail and paint apps continue to be amazing. Even on his boots where usually you see a lot of bleeding of colors, on Thor’s they are very minimal if any.

Thor comes with his trusty hammer, Mjolnir. What’s even more awesome is he comes with an extra spinning effect Mjolnir! It has a minimate hand sculpted in the middle that you can swap out with his regular hand. Just be sure to use the included base stand to keep him upright.

If you’re a Thor fan and/or avid customizer you’ll definitely want extras of this figure. So much great fodder; extra heads, hair, great cape, bracelets, spinning hammer. The Mighty Thor indeed!

Hawkeye

Out of all the Avengers, Hawkeye was the most deserving of a minimate do-over. His Marvel Wave 20 figure could stand to go for a workout on the treadmill.

His mask doesn’t have the sculpted ‘H’ on it but the eyes line up very well. I’m not really sure what’s going up with the crazy look on his face, a smirk or sly look would work a lot better. He does comes with an extra hairpiece, it’s the same one used from the Avengers movie Hawkeye just blonde (insert your own “blondes have more fun” joke here).

Instead of a full torso cover like he had on his previous comic version minimate this just has the collar with quiver attached; I really like this and doesn’t make him look so chunky. The blue/purple colors are great, very bright and the details stand out well too. His skirt is also redone as it has more wavy details and is stands out further from his legs which make it a lot easier to pose him. Rounding out his costume are some nice purple arm bracelets/bands and his purple buccaneer boots.

Hawkeye comes loaded with archery accessories. He has a brown notched bow and three pointed arrows and two rounded arrows. All the arrows do fix in his quiver too.

In conclusion, save for the angry look, he’s the best comic version Hawkeye released so far.

Grim Reaper

Maniacal laugh! MANIACAL LAUGH!!! Eric Williams is the brother of Simon Williams (Wonder Man), but Eric was always the bad boy. Jealousy and bitterness along with some encouragement my Baron Zemo helped turn Eric against Wonder Man (and the Avengers). Later with help from the Tinkerer and Ultron, Eric became the Grim Reaper.

He has a new sculpted helmet and a great maniacal look on his face. No extra hairpiece is included but does have a nice purple cape. As with all the figures in these box sets the colors and details look great. Often times black detail lines don’t show up well on darker colored pieces but not the case at all on Grim Reaper.

Now the main point of interest for this figure is his scythe. The piece itself fits very snug on his arm so be careful if you try to move or remove it as it does mark the underneath arm. It may not look like it in the pictures but the blade is flat. Overall it’s a great hand piece and looks really menacing on him. No other accessories are included for him.

He may not be an A-List villain but he makes for a good looking minimate. MANIACAL LAUGH!!!
