This Iron Man themed wave has two sets that are exclusive to TRU (Wave 7). With this set you get figures on the opposite ends of the scoring scale; so which one smashes the competition? Let’s find out below.

Packaging

The packaging is the standard window box with control art below the windows. The sides have individual picture of the two figures. On the back are the mini-bios of each character along with group picture of  all figures in this wave. The silver “TRU exclusive” foil mark is also on the front.

The Figures

Hulk Buster Iron Man

The Hulkbuster armor is a heavy-duty exo-frame to Stark’s modular Iron Man armor specifically designed for hand-to-hand combat with the Hulk.  This minimate is one of the best figures released to date (so yes, this is going to be a glowing review).

Let’s start with the chest piece since it incorporates his helmet. A truly massive sculpted piece that fits over the head peg, you have to remove the headpiece to take it on and off (which is good, keeps it snug in place). Great detail all around, from the bulky shoulder pads to showing off the pistons in back. The helmet part easily snaps into place on the chest piece and allows it to lift up and down to reveal his head below. Everything seems to line up well, the helmet is large enough that when up you can see his entire face. Lots of detail on his face for the distinct Iron Man faceplate. Love the paint color, shiny hot-rod red with gold. The paint job throughout is top notch.

Underneath the chest piece is added detail for the modular Iron Man armor. The arms, crotch and legs all have the same red color. For hands he has a large pair of gauntlets (again one of the best sculpted pieces we’ve seen), lots of detail with the gold pads on the front and distinct fingers in a clenched fist position. There is a waist cover that helps to tie together the chest piece with lower half of the figure, along with thigh pads too. The feet are two huge boots that provide a sturdy base for this massive figure; also lots of detail present here too (love the divots).

There are no accessories; but come on, the armor is its own accessory.

In conclusion, perfect colors, great sculpting and details; this is a must own figure!

Gamma Hulk

Now for another type of glowing review. Bruce Banner’s alter ego, this would be the fifteenth version of Hulk so far and the second version as Gamma Hulk.

I love the facial expression on this version, great details, furrowed  brow, angry eyes, teeth bared, perfect Hulk rage look … only problem  is you can barely see it. Now I like the green translucent color, it is darker than the previous Gamma Hulk had, but the details either need to be much darker or much lighter so we can actually see them. The hair is a step up from previous version with a green translucent reuse of the one from Zombie/Defenders Hulk.

The torso cover is another reuse, same from the Incredible Hulk movie figures, it works, it makes him look bulky. Wait is there detail on the torso piece, I think so but same as the face you can’t see it.  Underneath there’s no detail on regular torso. There is a waist piece to add to the bulk of the chest piece, again it’s not great, but it works it makes him look bulky. Now for the hands/feet: good news is they do have regular hands and feet included so that you can display him with just the basic minimate parts. The bad news is duck feet are back and just as horrid as usual and the larger hands (reuse of same ones from Ultimate Hulk) are just as visually unappealing.

No accessories for Hulk either.

Well I can’t rate him a 0 that would be cruel. But having him in the same pack as one of the best figures makes his flaws stand out even more. +1 point for better hair, +1 for good green translucent color, +1  for great face expression.
