First up in the Avengers Movie minimates we have one of the two Toys R Us exclusive sets: Hawkeye and Black Widow.
Packaging
The box is the new expanded window box so you can see both characters along with the accessories in the middle. The character names and control art bust shots are below the windows with the Avengers name/logo. The top has a group photo of the four super heroes. The sides have individual control art of each character. On the back are the mini-bios of each character along with group picture of all figures in this wave. The silver “TRU exclusive” foil mark is also on the front.
The Figures
Hawkeye
Very little background story has been shown about Clint Barton (aka Hawkeye) in the Marvel movies so far. We’ve only seen him in a brief cameo in the Thor movie but expect to see more of him in the new Avengers movie.
Ok so let’s get the negative stuff behind us so we can focus on the positive. I unfortunately got a figure with a backwards right leg; it happens even to the best of us package QA checkers. The only other negative I got is that hair, uggh. Now if you take a look above at the concept art from the side of the box, you’ll notice his hair is not that bad. It’s a very nice design that does match his look in the film; it’s just the translation to plastic form that’s not good. It looks like a brown blob on his head.
So with that said the rest of his design is pretty cool. He comes with two heads, one head has him with purple shades and the other is without shades. His outfit is not the traditional comic purple but darker special ops black with highlight of purple on the front. He has fairly detailed torso and legs. What’s really nice is the collar piece with attached quiver. I love the little SHIELD logo on the lapel. The quiver has arrows already sculpted on it but also has an opening to fit more arrows.
Besides the clear base stand included in the pack, Hawkeye also comes with three extra arrows that all can fit in his quiver. He has a black bow that has a hook so you can fit an arrow on it too. It’s a nice design but would have been better if the plastic was a bit more firm.
So if you can get past that awful hair then you got a really cool looking Avenger to add to your team.
Now Black Widow we have seen kick some butt in the Iron Man 2 movie. We’ve also seen her in a similar outfit in minimate form in the last Iron Man movie wave. I guess it’s never a bad thing to see more of Black Widow.
Her hairpiece does not have as detailed sculpting job as last time but I like the shorter haircut. Widow’s facial details are simple too but are similar to her human counterpart.
The outfit’s been updated from last time. Much more details on the torso, legs and arms and the lines really stand out well; especially the red widow symbol on her belt. She has all black cuffs, belt and new leg gun holsters. Even for such small pieces there is a lot of detail on them. I like the holsters a lot as they hold the guns more secure than previous versions.
Speaking of, Black Widow comes with two black guns. What’s nice is you can use pieces from this version to mix and match with the other Black Widow minimate versions to create your own perfect Widow.
