The “Best of” waves pulls together some of the more popular Marvel characters. It’s a good way to introduce the line to new collectors and also get some nice updated figures. With the recent release of top notch similar figures for both Daredevil and Venom you may be thinking this set is an easy pass. But not so fast; you better read on ….
Packaging
The box is the expanded window box so you can see both characters along with the accessories in the middle. The character names and control art bust shots are below the windows. The sides have individual control art of each character. On the back are the mini-bios of each character along with group picture of all figures in this wave.
The Figures
Daredevil
The Man without Fear; didn’t we just get an excellent version of him from Marvel Wave 43 & TRU Wave 13? Yes, yes we did. But this version is just as excellent.
These two figures (Best of & wave 43/tru w13) are basically the exact same just with a few different tweaks and colors. This version has a more muted red outfit with garnet colored gloves, boots and belt. He has the same mask cover with a little different black details giving him a more intense scowl. Underneath a well done facial expression to continue the scowl along with his white eyes. He comes with the same hairpiece we saw before just more orange.
The rest of him is a base minimate body with really good details. The paint apps are top notch with no noticeable bleeding of colors. I sorta prefer the darker torso highlights on the other version but that’s not to discount how well done the DD is on this version.
Same accessories as before: white batons that fit in his side leg pouch along with grappling cane (so cool!). This set also comes with clear base plates.
In conclusion, another excellent Daredevil. Now we need one just like this in his yellow costume!
Didn’t we just ….. yeah, yeah, I know. And honestly I was one that was going to pass on this set. That is, until I saw what was hiding underneath.
Venom comes with the same amazing sculpted head cover from the Venom Unleashed figure. However under that is not Eddie Brock (we’ll sorta, it’s not his face) it’s an eerily smiling symbiote face. I love this face, it’s so creepy it’s cool!
His torso cover is not the same bulked up cover but rather a (I hate to call it this but it is) more streamlined bulky cover. It allows fuller arm movement and also continues details along the sides and it looks incredible. Venom’s massive spider logo looks very impressive all the way around. But that’s not all, underneath on the main torso you also have his spider logo with blue muscle highlights all the way around!
He comes with claw hands but included are also a pair of standard minimate hands; nice touch. And another additional clear base plate is included. It would be perfect if he came with a tentacle hand accessory but since the colors match you can borrow the one from Venom Unleashed.
Don’t pass this figure up. A true Venom/Spider-Man/Marvel/Comic/etc fan should have this version ALONG with the Venom Through the Ages set to mix-n-match to create your own favorite Venom.
