Marvel’s extraterrestrial cockroaches swarm their way into this new LCS wave. Brood is packed along with perhaps one of the scariest looking Wolverines and both make for a great Halloween release. It’s hard not to get infected with excitement over this set; so let’s dissect each figure and see how they score.

Packaging

The box is the new expanded window box so you can see both characters along with the accessories in the middle. The character names and control art bust shots are below the windows. The sides have individual control art of each character. On the back are the mini-bios of each character along with group picture of all figures in this wave.

The Figures

Brood Infected Wolverine

This figure is based off how Wolverine looked in The Uncanny X-Men #234. He was infected by the Brood but his body’s healing factor helped purge the parasite like it was a disease. I’ve really been looking forward to this figure, I had a copy of that comic when I was a kid and remember how creepy but cool he looked.

Wolverines mask is excellent, love how it’s stretched out and over exaggerated with the points on the side. His eyes are further apart and squinted which give him that Brood look. The only negative is the mask needs to be able to go about a millimeter or two further down (or his face details further up); you can see the start of his eyes underneath where it would be ideal to just see his teeth. His face underneath is superb; lots and lots of detail. That grin that he has is soooo creepy; they really nailed it!

His outfit design is what we’re used to seeing with brown costume Wolverine but he does have added lines to sharpen his look. I especially like the dulling of the colors and that grey skin for this version. It really drives home the fact that he’s infected. It’s also worth noting how well his adamantium claws are done; they’re about the sharpest I’ve seen since his TRU w6 Battle Damaged version. His boots also have the stretched out point tips. I’m a little surprised by the lack of sharp detail on his red belt cover when the rest of the figure is far from lacking.

For accessories he comes with two bone-like tentacles that fit in place of his hands. Unfortunately the dullness of his colors don’t help with part swapping to update previous outfits but his mask, claws and boots still make for good custom fodder.

No doubt this is my favorite Wolverine released so far. He’s not perfect nor has the most recognizable of his outfits but he looks absolutely incredible!

Brood

The Brood is a race of extraterrestrial insectiod creatures that are constantly causing problems in the Marvel universe. Similar to the Xenomorphs from the Alien movie franchise they are of a hive mentality and reproduce by infecting other races with their eggs. There are several types (caste) of Brood, much the same as an ant colony. This caste that we have in minimate form is the Warrior-Prime (aka Sleazoids, Broodlings, or Drones). They are the most common and are like the worker ants in a colony. So enough entomology, let’s check these buggers out.

It’s a little hard to distinguish but there is part of a minimate base body there. The headpiece fits on top of a normal blank minimate head. AA did a wonderful job with the sculpting and details on this; especially love the big set of grinning fangs that you see. It even has that symbol on its forehead (I don’t recall if they’ve ever explained what that means). I like the dark green color even though in the comics we’re used to more of a brown color with these creatures.

The next part of the midsection is a base minimate torso with a sculpted cover that has two arm-pegs to allow for extra arms. Word of warning on these, the joints on the cover are tight with the extra arms (which would be the middle of the creatures three legs on each side) but the plastic for the peg is not as strong as what you get with the main torso. SO BE CAREFUL!! Don’t just twist these legs as the peg will snap; work it gently back and forth to get them loose or freeze/heat that section to loosen.

The tail is all one sculpted piece that has a torso peg and arm-pegs for additional arms. Each of the back four arms/legs has short tentacles whereas the front arms/legs have longer ones (same piece as what’s included with Brood Wolverine). I really like how the tail coils up with the stingers on the tips.

No extra accessories are included but come on what could you need with all these pieces already included. Well I guess some wings would’ve been cool; be sure to check the forum for others that have already customized these.

In conclusion, wow! Seriously well done army builder figure. Just be careful with those legs and you can build a large nest of these.
