Here are several promotional items given out in 2010 at the San Diego Comic Convention (SDCC), the Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo (C2E2) and the New York Toy Fair. There is one more Battle Beasts Gator that has been released but it was included in a special Minimate Carrying Case.
Packaging
Similar to the past Minimates given away at comic conventions, the gators are packaged in a small baggie. Again the printed text is on a sticker attached to the baggie showing the Battle Beasts Logo along with the convention logo and the Diamond Select Toys & Art Asylum logos.
The Figures
2010 SDCC Gold Battle Beasts Gator
Battle Beasts originally came on to the scene in the late 80’s. They had a line of 2″ toy figures with animal bodies with armors and weapons; each figure had a heat sensitive sticker that would reveal its strength (fire, water, wood). In 2009 Diamond Select Toys acquired the Battle Beasts brand. So far the only figures released in this line have been the promotional Gators.
The base of this figure is a blank minimate. It has a green head, arms and legs; the torso and pelvis are gold colored. The sculpted pieces are where the beauty lies.
The head piece cover is a partially open mouth green alligator head with red eyes and a gold helmet. The detail on the head is incredible, with the white teeth and red tongue showing inside. The torso piece is one large piece that covers down past the pelvis and has the gator’s tail on the back. It is a fully armored piece with gold armor, high shoulder pads with an extended section on the left shoulder. Not quite sure what this is for but it looks pretty good, only drawback is it severely limits the head mobility. On the back you can see the spines poking through the armor and the tail even shows the scaly skin detail with the lighter colored underneath of the tail. A truly impressive piece. Sadly the only thing missing is a heat rub sticker.
The hands are one sculpted piece with gator claws along with gold box shaped bracelets/gauntlets. The gold boots extend up to the knee joints with the green gator toes poking out. Got to love the detail of the black painted nails too.
He comes with a gold axe; the same one from Ares (Marvel) just painted all gold.
Since he’s a promo figure he doesn’t get a true score but can you say Grrrrreat Gator! This is a very cool figure and well worth tracking down if you don’t have one.
MMC Score – Gatorific
2010 New York Toy Fair Silver Battle Beasts Gator
This is the same as the gold version just with a different paint job and slightly different head. The base of this figure is a blank minimate. It has a light green head, arms and legs; the torso and pelvis are silver colored.
The head piece cover is a more closed mouth light green alligator head with green eyes and a silver helmet. The detail on the head again is incredible, with the white teeth and red tongue showing inside. The torso piece is one large piece that covers down past the pelvis and has the gator’s tail on the back. It is a fully armored piece with silver armor, high shoulder pads with an extended section on the left shoulder. On the back you can see the spines poking through the armor and the tail even shows the scaly skin detail with the lighter colored underneath of the tail.

He comes with a silver long sword, the same one from Ares just painted all silver.
Since he’s a promo figure he doesn’t get a true score but just like the gold one this is a great figure.
MMC Score – Gator-chic
2010 C2E2 Black Battle Beasts Gator
This is the same as the previous versions just with a different paint job and slightly different head. The base of this figure is a blank minimate. It has a light black (almost grey) head, arms, legs and torso.
The head piece cover is a very open mouth light black head with yellow eyes and a dark black helmet. The detail on the head again is incredible, with the gold teeth and red tongue showing inside. The torso piece is one large piece that covers down past the pelvis and has the gator’s tail on the back. It is a fully armored piece with black armor, high shoulder pads with an extended section on the left shoulder. He comes with a large black futuristic gun, this time it didn’t come from Ares but rather from Bishop instead.
Since he’s a promo figure he doesn’t get a true score but just like the other ones this is a great figure.
