The packaging style for this wave is the same as the first two waves, meaning a consistent look for you MOC’ers. The Minimate’d picture this wave is of Wonder Woman. The figures are held into the back tray of the blister by twist ties.

The back of the card shows off the rest of the wave. I’d’ve liked to see some small bios incorporated like the newer Marvel sets.

As a key DC hero, we have seen a LOT of Batman Minimates, from the myriad C3 versions to the first wave of these DC Minimates. This Batman is a purely battle-damaged version of the wave 1 Batman, there’s been no attempt to give him a slightly different costume as DCD did with the Battle Damaged Superman. However, the wave 1 Batman was arguably one of the finest Minimates around, so let’s see how this one does.

 

Battle Damaged Batman utilises the full mask piece as seen on the wave 1 version. This was a masterstroke of design allowing two different expressions. The cowl doesn’t have much damage on it although it is a bit more scuffed. However it is Batman’s grimace that shows you he’s taken a beating. Very different from the stern look of wave 1’s Batman. Remove the mask and you see a fantastically detailed Bruce Wayne head, complete with swollen lips. The detail is really good and when he’s got the hairpiece on you really get a sense that this guy has been through the wringer.

Historically battle damaged Minimates have been slightly hit or miss affairs. In order to do the concept justice you really have to go all out on detailing to really make it stand out. Thankfully DCD have done just that. Batman has tears and rips in his costume everywhere. In particular his legs have some great damage detailling, an area which sometimes sees none. The gloves haven’t got any marks on them though, which is my only complaint. Would have been nice to get some scuffs and scrapes on those too.

Battle Damaged Batman comes with the same accessory as the wave 1 Batman – a pair of oversized Batcuffs. However this time around they make much more sense when in a two-pack with Killer Croc than they did when OMAC was the second figure in the set.

Overall, a wonderful variant of an already top-notch Minimate. I think the expressions on the faces are even better than the original.

Killer Croc

Waylon Jones is afflicted with a disease that is turning him into a crocodile. He becomes a villain, known as Killer Croc.

DCD have sprinkled their line with a few characters who use the old Lord of the Rings 2.5 inch body, in order to give the heroes more imposing threats. A giant crocodile-man is an excellent choice for the 2.5 inch body, The other 2.5 inch bodies used so far in the DC Minimates line – Brainiac 13 and Ares, have been complex Minimates with many pieces. Killer Croc is a lot simpler in his design and execution.

His facial detail is superb. He has evil red eyes set into a craggy face, and a grin that just screams wicked. The use of the dark green to give the face (and the body) texture is really well done. The texture goes round the back of his head and also on his arms.

Killer Croc has torn trousers and a ragged belt piece. He has toes painted on, sadly this makes him look like he’s using nail polish.

Overall, a very cool version of a simple character. This is one Minimate who’s extra size is welcome because of the nature of his villainy.
