Four score and many moons ago All-Father stated “Whosoever holds this hammer, if he be worthy, shall possess the power of Thor.”  So after this election season let’s break down whom is more worthy in this LCS wave 42 2-pack.

The box is the new expanded window box so you can see both characters along with the accessories in the middle. The character names and control art bust shots are below the windows. The sides have individual control art of each character. On the back are the mini-bios of each character along with group picture of all figures in this wave.

The Figures

Armored Thor

Thor’s not usually one for battle armor but for a time he was cursed and needed some protection for his brittle bones. We’ve had several Thor minimates over the years but this one is the most visually striking version yet.

He has a metallic gold helmet with large silver wings, much larger than any of the previous outfits. He also comes with an alternate blonde hairpiece that does fit over his cape. It looks a little strange without his cape on as there’s a gap between his hair and head but overall very good headpieces. Thor face has lots of details with scruffy beard and intense look with his eyes.

Thor is sporting a high-arched red cape similar to ones we’ve seen in the Disney 4-pack. The color is a darker red and has added his light blue/silver shoulder pad armor. I especially like the little gold clamps where cape meets the pads, it’s a really nice addition. This cape rests on the arm pegs and shoulders instead of wrapping around the head peg. Underneath there’s lot of details for the scales of his body armor and even some lines added on his gold arms. He also has a large silver flared gauntlet bracelet for his right arm (he needed a bit more support for wielding his hammer in the comics). His skirt continues the trend of lots of details/sculpting along with more on his legs and boot fronts.

For an accessory he comes with (of course) his hammer Mjolnir. But what’s really cool is this is the first time in a 2-pack that his hammer has the words “Whosever holds this hammer, if he be worthy, shall possess the power of THOR.” inscribed on it (this wave with the corresponding TRU wave 12).  With the outstanding colors and details on it this figure also makes for a good base for other knight characters.

Highly armored and highly worthy, if he would have come with an extra spinning hammer he would have been perfect.

Beta Ray Bill

Everyone’s favorite galactic horse makes his first appearance in a 2-pack; he had previously been released in non-metallic colors in the SDCC exclusive Stormbreaker Box Set. Beta Ray Bill is a genetically altered alien from the Korbinite race; he was their last hope for survival/protection and proved himself worthy of the power of Mjolnir.

I’m honestly not sure how they would have pulled off a convincing Bill without a sculpted head like he has (one day when Rocket Raccoon is made in minimate form he’s going to have to have a sculpted head too). I love the details on this; his menacing grin looks terrific and good job on his winged helmet as well.

Like Thor his paint apps are bright and metallic. He has a sculpted torso piece with attached cape and shoulder pads; there’s lot of details on the front. Underneath he’s a basic black blank. The arms have the same orange skin tone as his head. I’m not really fond of the gloves that he has (I like the separate cuffs) but white/red/black colors stand out well. Beta Ray Bill has a nicely detailed gold belt piece. And similar to what we’ve seen with some Iron Man figures he has sculpted details on his thighs. His boots are also larger in size which help him  stand taller than Thor.

Although worthy to wield Mjolnir he was given his own hammer Stormbreaker, which is very well recreated here as his accessory.

In conclusion he is another worthy figure and as a two-pack this is an incredibly good set.
