Another exclusive for Toys R Us wave 18 features two characters from the recent Age of Ultron story arc. Even though we’ve seen other versions of Ultron and Wolverine before, these are new and shiny.

The box is the expanded window box so you can see both characters along with the accessories in the middle. The character names and control art bust shots are below the windows. The sides have individual control art of each character. On the back are the mini-bios of each character along with group picture of all figures in this wave. The silver “TRU exclusive” foil mark is also on the front.

The Figures

Age of Ultron Wolverine

Time travel is messy. You could step on an ant and change the whole course of history; Wolverine got to experience that first-hand.

Wolverine has had a lot of minimates over the years, so much so that they seem to all blur together. It has gotten to the point where it takes a truly well done figure for one to stand out. Thankfully this is one of those well done figures.

We’ve seen his hairpiece before but it is one of the best Wolverine hairs. I love the detail on his face, even the little scruff of unshaven whiskersaround his chin looks good. I really like the little hood-piece included; it’s not the full hanging mask like we’ve seen before but rather just the hood. The little points of yellow on the top of his torso still give the illusion of his pointed mask. Speaking of details he shows lots of grey muscle details on his torso and legs; there is even a bit of definition on his forearms. Overall the paint apps are very nice, clean and detailed. He also comes with a good pair of claw hands.

The only extra included is the clear base stand. He makes a good figure to swap parts with other Wolverines, especially his hands, head and hair.

I was honestly surprised by this figure. At first I felt like ugggh, not another Wolverine. I mean I will buy Spider-Mans all day every day and twice on Sunday, but it has to be a really good Wolverine for me to want to keep it in my collection. This one is definitely a keeper.

Ultron Drone

All the big bad guys have to have minions; it’s all the rage nowadays. Ultron is no different, but he is so cool that he can control his from the future!

DST nailed Ultron on the first try and the one from the Age of Ultron box set is just bad ass (I know, I need to acquire that set to review)! These drones have a few modifcations from the original figure. The drone have a slip on mask that has sculpted antennae ears. There are good details for the face with the familiar robot mouth with burst of energy behind it and bug-like eyes. Underneath the main head is done in translucent orange plastic and has white details just like on the mask; absolutely brilliant!

The drones have a gold paint job rather than Ultron’s usual chrome color with nice details and highlights on his arms, legs and torso. I liked how on the original the detail lines continued all around his body but the geometric shapes all over these drones are a really nice touch. Another upgrade is his waist cover. It gives the figure a robotic and definitely unhuman shape.

For an accessory the drone comes with an orange takeoff flight base along with the standard clear base stand. The gold pieces make for good custom fodder for any needed gold figure or piece.

So once again DST nails another Ultron figure with the drones. I would like to see a new true Ultron released soon with the slip on mask (perhaps with cutout eyes and mouth), translucent red head, robotic waist cover and all in glorious metallic chrome. Get it done quickly; my drones are waiting!
