They must have some seriously good cookies there at DST because they’re bringing the bulk lately! This pack is a remake from the first wave of Marvel Minimates; it’s hard to believe that was almost ten years ago. So let’s see how we’ve progressed this past decade…
Daredevil’s costume is relatively simple but it shows how effective a simple design translates to minimate form. He’s basically a red blank with some black details. It’s the details that have vastly improved over the years. What once were a few straight lines and simple D font is now contoured muscle definition with logo that pops off his chest. It’s like watching your kids grow up and change from stick figure drawings to fully flesh out characters.
I like the updated design on his horned mask and he has the best mask details since the Marvel Knights version of him. And what you have to love is no longer do we get the regular masked version and then variant unmasked version, instead we get both in one figure. They’ve included a rust colored hairpiece for the unmasked look and also lots of details on his face underneath.
Instead of the bulkier belt with pouch on the side he has a leg pouch for his included white batons. He also comes with a grappling cane perfect for shots of him swinging through the streets.
So even though we see some of the characters over, they just keep getting better and better.
Wilson Fisk, the Kingpin of organized crime in New York City and one of Daredevil’s main foes. He’s big into everything: gambling, racketeering, laundering, cookies and much much more.
Kingpin was in sore need of a remake, the fat-suit from wave 1 just wasn’t cutting it any more now that we’ve seen what can be done with bulked-up characters. He has a basic minimate head, luckily with no hole on top, with good details for his grumpy face.
His torso cover is a similar pear shape but it has tons more sculpted details, like his little handkerchief and button-down lapel. He has the wrap around shoulder covers and massive hands with enlarged cuffs. Like Rhino with the clenched fists they did right by Kingpin to have with open hands.
To complete the beefy look he has a peg waist piece with waist cover; no riser needed to increase height. His legs have thigh covers and a reuse of the boots seen with the Disney store 4-pack Hulk. Underneath all of these covers is a basic white blank on top with purple lower half blank.
As an accessory he comes with a silver topped black cane. And like most other bulky characters, all the extra pieces and main minimate body is great for custom fodder.
What else is there to say, the big man has style and looks very impressive. Another remake done right!
