Next up for the Marvel vs. Capcom 3 series, two metal masters do battle in another TRU exclusive. So which one will blast ahead? Read on to find out …
Poor Zero, he started out teaming up with Mega Man in the video game Mega Man X and went on to star in his own series (Mega Man Zero), but he has always been in the shadow of classic Mega Man. Now with Marvel vs Capcom 3, Zero gets to step out of that shadow and take over fighting duties.
I must say I am impressed with his translation to minimate form. There was an alt blue costume version released earlier in a SDCC TRU 4 pack (yep, he’s still in that classic Mega Man shadow).
His helmet is a new sculpted piece and they really nailed the features from the game: the high pointed red ridges in the back, the blue diamond on his forehead and the V cutout for his face. Also they did a great job on the exaggerated large eyes and simple mouth. Thankfully (for head movement and for customizing) his long blonde hair is not attached to his helmet but rather his torso cover. And as you would expect his torso cover looks just like it does in the games. The squared shoulder pads look great and the openings on the side still allow for vertical movement of his arms. Underneath he is mainly a black blank with some white with details on his waist.
Zero has the signature Mega Man hand cannon and OMG is it a beauty. It should be a great start for anyone looking to customize a classic Mega Man or other characters from the series. His left hand is another sculpted glove piece. His boots are also the signature robot feet from the series, another great job with design and sculpt. Also the wide base of his boots allows the figure to stand without tipping over from the extended hair.
Zero comes with his green energy sword. There are a few differences between this version and the blue alt costume (besides the color). Blue’s hand cannon is at half power as opposed to Red’s full power (red bars). Also Red has the sculpted pointed knees and the earpieces are extended out too.
In conclusion, Zero is anything but a zero. He’s a very well translated minimate figure and one heck of a great start to any robot custom ideas you may have.
