The re-imagined Battlestar Galactica continues to wow fans and the Minimates based on the show must be doing the same as they’ve made it to a third wave. Up first for review are two more key members of the Galactica crew, Helo and Tyrol.

Packaging

The packaging is exactly the same as the previous two waves, with the obvious exception ofthe blister inserts, and the photos on the back of the card. It works really well so the fact it hasn’t changed isn’t really a problem.

The rear of the card features same picture of the BSG cast rendered as Minimates, and photos of all the ‘mates in the wave including the variant.

The Figures

Lieutenant Helo

First up from this two-pack is Lieutenant Karl ‘Helo’ Agathon, A Raptor pilot in the Colonial Fleet. Helo generally co-piloted with Sharon Valerii [is this a euphemism? – Ed].

The likeness isn’t great, though it’s obvious that a serious attempt was made to get Helo nailed. The lines for the cheekbones are great, but the eyes are a bit soulless, and there’s just something off with the expression of Helo’s mouth. In my opinion it should be a tad wider too.

The body is a fairly standard Colonial Pilot flightsuit. It’s a carbon copy of the one worn by Boomer in wave Two but the shoulder prints don’t seem as shiny and there are very minor differences in the patches on the left thigh. These are likely to be production related rather than by design. There’s a noticeable difference in the print around the ankles, the green is much darker on Helo than it was on Sharon. You can probably tell I’m running out of things to write about this figure. It’s by no means a poor ‘mate, but it’s the fourth time I’ve reviewed a Colonial Pilot and essentially they’re ‘same body – different head’. It doesn’t help that the likeness is so off.

Helo’s accessorised with a Colonial Pilot’s helmet and a pistol. So, exactly the same as all the other pilots then.

In conclusion, nicely put together, but nothing to write home about.

Deck Chief Galen Tyrol

Master Mechanic Galen Tyrol is charged with keeping what’s left of the Colonial Fleet’s Vipers and Raptors in a flight-worthy condition. Not an easy job.

An excellent likeness on this ‘mate, spoiled slightly by the print on the chin not being as detailed as in the promo pics. All the same there can be little doubt as to who this ‘mate references.

At last we get a different uniform. My shelves are looking very green and blue these days. Tyrol’s orange coverall makes him stand out quite dramatically from his crewmates. The stripe that runs down the arms and legs is very difficult to pick out but at least it’s present. Theres some nice detailing on the contrasting green section around the chest which I think are meant to be equipment pouches. They give a really nice texture. Other than that this is a very basic Minimate, no extra parts whatsoever but it’s not hurt by the lack.

Tyrol has no accessories. A spanner or two wouldn’t have gone amiss. I mean, we get picture frames with other BSG ‘mates, so it would have been nice to get something useful.

In conclusion, another nice ‘mate but as with Helo it’s hard to get excited about it.
